Alternately it's a story about mental illness and coping mechanisms.
Michelle works as an animator for Dreamworks and often the end sections are animated, the most famous being Morbid Malediction. The art is known for being fantastic however the pacing is very slow. The storyboard format doesn't help with this. It's not uncommon for a hundred panels to go by with no real progress. This changes when Wrava shows up:

If you do decide to read it there are some panels that even gore hounds found distrubing. When you get to the 'Paradise Machine' it's very soon.
